A little scare before last Nightastic fireworks
Mon, 16 Aug 2010I braved the Magic Kingdom crowds for the last evening of Disney’s Summer Nightastic events Saturday night — Gosh, how I dislike the roped-off Monorail corral on the way out! Moo!
 My camera can't do justice to the Summer Nightastic fireworks, but this gives a sense of the castle under attack. But, as usual the fireworks show was worth the slight delay in getting back to my car. I really think it’s Disney’s best fireworks show. The castle-burning effect got gasps from the crowd — plus applause! – Tinker Bell’s flight got oohs, and a great burst of cheers accompanied the finale.
There was a moment of worry early on… At 10 p.m. the show did not start. Shortly thereafter, the mysterious “Due to circumstances beyond our control…” message played and with the crowd already groaning before it finished, the cast members near me were shouting, “It’s only delayed. It’s going to happen. IT’S JUST A DELAY!”
Thankfully, they were correct, and the show started about 10 past 10.
As summer winds down, a special tip of the hat must go to the cast members who work crowd control during big summer events like the Nightastic fireworks. The ones near me in the castle hub-end of Main Street on Saturday night were excellent — politely but firmly keeping traffic moving, letting people squeeze into the side areas but helping others get on their way in or out of the park. Well done, all.
Now… let’s just hope they bring back the Nightastic fireworks for next summer. Pink! Blue! No, pink! No, blue!
