Disney passholder website puts Tinker Bell movie screening reservations on hold Mon, 16 Aug 2010 6 p.m. update: “Event sign-up is currently unavailable.” Passholders are asked to check back Tuesday at 11 a.m.
5 p.m. update: Only seeing “Sorry, a system error has occurred.” There is no notice of the event being full yet, but I can’t access the reservation system.
4 p.m. update: The reservation system came up briefly and showed only the 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sept. 12 times available. Now it’s back to “Sorry, a system error has occurred.” Let us know in the comments if you got tickets and how you managed it.
3 p.m. update: “The event sign-up is currently not available” notice has been removed. However, passholders trying to claim seats have been getting “Sorry, a system error has occurred” for the last hour. There are reports of some folks snagging reservations (how???) but the site has mostly been down today.
It’s been a frustrating morning for Disney World passholders trying to make reservations for the screening of Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue. Sign-ups were supposed to begin at 10 a.m., but the site still isn’t up and running.
Although there are six screenings of the direct-to-DVD movie during a two-day period, they fill up very quickly. (I know this from attending the last two fairy screenings.) Those who want seats hang out online waiting for the reservations to become available.
An hour after the originally scheduled time, passholders were still getting blank screens, and some took to Twitter and Disboards.com to vent their frustrations. They tried multiple computers and browsers with no luck. They called Disney’s technical support line and were told the glitch was being worked on.
Finally, a notice was added to the passholder website: “The Event Sign-Up is currently not available. Please check back later. We truly regret any inconvenience.”
We all know these things happen, but they seem to happen pretty often on the Disney passholder page, which makes many of us want to pull our hair out. This was a scheduled event, not unexpected traffic on the site, so you would think a plan would be in place.
Perhaps there is a more efficient way to handle these large-scale reservations. What would you recommend if you were in charge?
